Ice Fishing
On Thursday our fourth grade class went ice fishing on Peterson Lake. They carved 60 holes for us to fish in. We used maggots for bait. I had white ones. Some of them were still alive! It was hard to bait the hooks. We had to put about 4 maggots on the hook. Once we got them on we would put the hook in the hole and swing the barrel down and wait till the hook dropped all the way down. Once it dropped all the way down you swing the barrel back up and reel the line in only half a turn and wait until you see the tip of the rod wiggle. Once you see it wiggle you reel it in and see if you have a fish. Everyone caught at least one fish. You could keep however many perch you wanted. We kept all of the perch we got. Only the big ones we took home for eating. We kept the other ones for dissecting. Some day we are going to dissect them. I caught one fish. It was about six inches. The ice was about one foot thick! They said they try to keep it ten to a foot thick.
